Defending champion Fares Dessouky and third seed Tarek Momen secured straight games wins in their opening matches at the CIB Professional Squash Association Black Ball Squash Open in Cairo.

Both players received byes through the first round of competition at the Black Ball Sporting Club due to their seeded status.

Dessouky, who won the 2020 event in December, beat India’s Ramit Tandon 11-9, 11-2, 11-6 in his opening match.

Defeat for Tandon meant he was unable to win his second match of the tournament having beaten Scotland’s Greg Lobban yesterday.

Dessouky will now play fellow Egyptian Omar Mosaad, who despatched Scotland’s Alan Clyne 11-7, 11-7, 11-5.

Third seed Momen overcame strong resistance from Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng in the second round.

The Egyptian star claimed a tightly contested opening game 12-10, before winning the following games 11-8, 11-5 to advance.

Momen’s reward will be a third round match against France’s Gregoire Marche.

Marche had earlier earned an 11-4, 15-13, 11-8 win over Colombia’s Miguel Rodriguez.

Top seed Ali Farag ousted Egyptian Mohamed Abouelghar 11-9, 11-4, 11-3 in his opening match of the tournament.

Second seed Mohamed ElShorbagy, also of Egypt, is due to play his second round match tomorrow.
