Norway's Hans Christian Tungesvik and Italy's Sandra Mairhofer secured the men's and women's titles, respectively, at the Winter Triathlon World Championships in Sant Julià de Lòria in Andorra.

Tungesvik won the men's race in a time of 1 hour 16min and 47sec, nearly a minute ahead of the Russian Triathlon Federation's (RTF) Pavel Andreev, who failed with his bid for a ninth straight world title.

A strong ski leg saw Tungesvik overtake Andreev to win the gold.

Andreev claimed the silver medal by just four seconds ahead of Italy's Giuseppe Lamastra, who won bronze after finishing 17 seconds in front of compatriot Franco Pesavento.

Czech Republic's Marek Rauchfuss was fifth and RTF's Evgenii Uliashev was sixth.

Mairhofer dominated the women's race, finishing in a time of 1:32:35.

Austria's Romana Slavinec finished 48 seconds behind, claiming the silver medal ahead of RTF's Anna Medvedeva.

Medvedeva finished third ahead of her compatriot and reigning world champion Daria Rogozina, while Czech triathlete Aneta Grabmullerova finished fifth.

Nadezhda Belkina led an all-RTF podium in the women's under-23 category, finishing in a time of 1:39:30.

Olga Cheremisinova claimed silver, 45 seconds down from her compatriot, while Valeria Kuznetsova won the bronze medal.

Italy's Mattia Tanara earned the under-23 men's title in a time of 1:21:41, more than five minutes ahead of his closest challenger, RTF's Evgenii Evgrafov.

Evgrafov's compatriot Ivan Zalavtsev won the bronze medal.
