Sweden has been named as host of the 2024 Men’s Floorball World Championships after being selected over Singapore.

The International Floorball Federation (IFF) Central Board decided on the World Championship host at their latest meeting.

An evaluation of the bids was conducted by a 12-member panel, compromising representatives from the IFF Executive Committee, IFF Rules and Competition Committee and the IFF office.

The Evaluation Committee found the bids were even, with the IFF Central Board opting for Sweden due to the potential for a larger financial impact amid the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sweden are due to host the World Championships in Malmö.

Competition is expected to take place at the Malmö Arena and Baltic Hall.

The Malmö Arena in the city has a capacity of 12,512 people, with the venue's attendance record for floorball standing at 11,324.

Baltic Hall, which also will stage matches if the bid is successful, has a capacity of 4,077.

"The Central Board discussed the matter extensively and felt that both applications were really well and professionally prepared," said John Liljelund, IFF secretary general.

"It was the first time that IFF had two such equally well-balanced applications, making the decision extremely difficult.

"The IFF Central Board decided to appoint the Swedish Floorball Federation as the organiser for the IFF Men’s World Floorball Championships 2024, based mainly on the overall bigger positive declared financial impact for IFF in these difficult times in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic."

This is set to be the fourth time Sweden has hosted the Men's World Championships, following editions in 1996, 2006 and 2014 - all won by the hosts.

The event has been dominated by Sweden and Finland, with the countries winning the title on eight and four occasions respectively.

Helsinki had been due to stage the World Championships last year, but the event was moved to December 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zurich is scheduled to stage the World Championships in 2022.

The IFF Central Board has also nominated Floorball Denmark as organiser of the Men's Under-19 World Championships in 2023.

Floorball Denmark plans to organise the event in Fredrikshavn in Arena Nord from April 26 to 30 in 2023, with both playing venues being under the same roof.

Arena Nord previously hosted the Women’s World Floorball Championships in 2007.

Finland was named as host of the Women's Under-19 World Floorball Championships in 2024.

The Finnish Floorball Federation plans to run the event in the city of Lahti in the Lahti Sports and Fair Centre.

Competition is scheduled to take place from May 1 to 5.
