Val-d'Isère will host the opening downhill and super-G events of the men’s International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine World Cup season this weekend.

Slalom has provided the focus of the opening four competitions but attention will shift over the next two days at the French resort.

Switzerland’s Mauro Caviezel will be among the favourites in the men’s super-G competition tomorrow.

Caviezel secured three podium finishes in last season’s six super-G races, which saw him crowned as the World Cup champion in the discipline.

Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr and Matthias Mayer both earned race wins last season.

The duo will expect to challenge Caviezel for a place on top of tomorrow’s podium.

Mayer will also expect to feature towards the top of the standings in the downhill competition, which is scheduled for Sunday (December 13).
