A countdown clock is set to be unveiled in Yekaterinburg tomorrow to mark 1,000 days to go until the Russian city hosts the 2023 Summer World University Games.

Organisers of the Games have kept details of how the clock will look a secret, revealing only that it will reflect the logo of the event.

The clock will be located in the centre of Yekaterinburg and will count down the seconds, minutes, hours and days until the Opening Ceremony of the Games on August 8, 2023.

It will be revealed on the same day as the unveiling of the mascots for the Games at the Historical Park of Yekaterinburg.

More than 200 entries were received for the Yekaterinburg 2023 mascot competition with participants submitting images of 12 different animals - a brown bear, a reindeer, a raccoon dog, a black stork, a sable, a wolf, a fox, an elk, a wild boar, a lizard, a silver hoof and malachite.

The entries were judged by an expert panel, chaired by Governor of the Sverdlovsk region Yevgeny Kuyvashev.

The 2023 Summer World University Games, due to feature 18 sports, are scheduled to take place in Yekaterinburg from August 8 to 19.
