Lyon in France was last week named as the hosts of the 2013 Athletics World Championships, which is the biggest disability athletics event on the planet outside the Paralympic Games.

Although no contenders have yet been mentioned for the 2015 competition, London have been widely mooted as contenders for the 2017 event after winning the right to stage the 2017 able-bodied World Athletics Championships in Monte Carlo last month.

Throughout the bid process, London stated that they wanted to host the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and IPC World Athletics Championships back-to-back for the first time in history.

IAAF President Lamine Diack and IPC President Sir Philip Craven have both expressed that they would like to see the two events staged together and earlier this year, the pair signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) vowing to help their two organisations work more closely together.

insideworldparasport understands that London have already approached the IPC about the possibility of staging the 2017 competition.

Meanwhile, the IPC are also looking for potential bidders for the 2014 and 2016 IPC European Athletics World Championships after Stadskanaal in the Netherlands were recently named as hosts for the 2012 event in what will be the last major athletics competition before the London 2012 Paralympics.

The deadline for expressions of interest for all four competitions is March 2, 2012.
