Renovation of the venue set to be used for the basketball competition at the Chengdu 2021 Summer World University Games has got underway.

Basketball matches are due to take place at Sichuan Gymnasium, which is being upgraded to improve the layout, air conditioning systems, sport facilities, and safety facilities.

Several supporting rooms are also going to be built.

The renovation is set to be completed by February, according to organisers, with the Games scheduled to take place from August 18 to 29.

Sichuan Gymnasium is equipped with 9,300 seats and can also hold handball, tennis, gymnastics, fencing, wrestling, weightlifting and wushu events. 

Work is also underway to revamp the Chengdu 2021 rowing venue, the Sichuan Water Sports School.

A total of 49 competition training venues - including 13 being newly built and 36 renovated - and a main media centre have been set up for the multi-sport competition. 

Basketball and rowing are two of eighteen sports on the Chengdu 2021 programme.
