paralympic_tickets_15-09-11September 16 - London 2012 have revealed that the evening sessions for swimming and track cycling at the Paralympics next year are already oversubscribed - the first time in the history of the Games that individual events have been oversubscribed.

The announcement came today as the application period reached its halfway point but there are still 10 days left to apply for tickets to the Paralympics, with the application process due to closes at 6pm on September 26.

However, organisers have confirmed that there is still good availability across all sports, including those at lower price categories in track cycling and swimming.

"It is great news that one year out we can say that for the first time in Paralympic Games history, some sessions will be oversubscribed, but there are still lots of opportunities to be part of London 2012," said London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe.

"There are great prices and of course tickets include a Games Travelcard, making them even better value.

"The Paralympic Games offer world class sport at world class venues - plus with ParalympicsGB aiming to emulate their spectacular success at the last Games, there will be some memorable British sporting moments to be part of."

The £20.12 ($33.15/€23.32) tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies are also oversubscribed, while evening sessions for wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby are also proving popular

But despite the oversubscription, the Paralympics will use the same random ballot process used for the Olympics so there is no advantage in applying early.

Applications for tickets can be made online at www.tickets.london2012.com or via a postal application using the London 2012 Paralympic Ticketing Guide, which can be found in Lloyds TSB branches in England and Wales, Bank of Scotland branches in Scotland and public libraries in Northern Ireland.

In recognition of Visa's support of the Paralympic Games, only Visa (debit, credit and prepaid) can be used to purchase tickets online, while payment for postal applications can be made by cheque and postal order.

Prices at the Paralympics start at £10 ($16/€12) for adults and £5 ($8/€6) for those who are 16 or under and 60 or over on 29 August 2012.

Tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies start at £20.12 with a top end price of £500 ($824/€580) for the Opening Ceremony.

In addition, a Games Travelcard, for use on the day of the event on public transport in zones 1-9 in London and for travel between London and Eton Dorney and Brands Hatch, is included within the price of a ticket.

Day passes will be available for the Paralympics enabling spectators to see a range of sports taking place in the Olympic Park although tickets for athletics, cycling, swimming and some finals of other sports will be sold on a reserved seating basis only.

Group Organiser tickets will also be available, and those applying for 20 tickets will receive two additional tickets at no extra charge.

An application of 30 tickets would receive a total of 33 tickets and so on up to an application for 50 tickets, which would receive 55.
