Five nominees have been revealed for the Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) Athlete of the Month award for February. 

Guatemala's Gersson Mejia has been shortlisted after claiming gold at the Mexico Para Taekwondo Open.

He defeated home crowd favourite Luis Enrique Campos in the men’s up to 61 kilogram K41 to triumph. 

Two powerlifters have been nominated, with Maria Antonieta Ortiz of Chile up for the award following a gold medal at the Manchester World Cup for a lift of 116kg in the women's under-79kg. 

Herbert Aceituno of El Salvador is included after taking bronze at the same event in the men's under-59kg.

Vanessa Cristina de Souza of Brazil received a nomination for winning the Sevilla Marathon in the women's T54, crossing the line in 1min 40.23sec. 

American snowboarder Joe Pleban rounds off the shortlist, having achieved two snowboard cross silver medals at a World Para Snowboard event in Canada. 

Nominations were compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees. 

The public have until Friday (March 13) to vote for the winner. 

Last month, the award went to Chilean table tennis player Luis Flores.
