Storms forced organisers to reschedule races at the World Championships ©Sailing Energy

Organisers have rescheduled races for the final day of the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships after weather conditions prevented competition from taking place today.

Officials were forced to admit defeat in their attempts to hold races on the fourth day of the World Championships.

Summer storms were blamed, with strong winds preventing competition from taking place safely at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club in Australia.

Hopes had been raised that racing may have been possible at 4pm local time, but acceptable conditions did not materialise.

Organisers say two gold fleet races have been arranged to take place tomorrow in all three fleets, with silver and bronze races immediately following.

The Nacra 17 medal race will then take place, before the conclusion of 49erFX competition.

The World Championships will conclude with the medal race for the 49er class.

Austria's Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl lead the 49er class heading into the final day.

The duo are one point clear of New Zealand's defending champions Peter Burling and Blair Tuke.

Britain's Charlotte Dobson and Saskia Tidey lead the 49erFX standings by two points from Spain's Tamara Echegoyen and Paula Barcelo.

In the Nacra 17, Australian siblings Nathan and Haylee Outteridge lead the competition on 37 points.

Organisers say the forecast for tomorrow is promising, although showers are still predicted.
