Bangladesh are on the brink of reaching the semi-finals of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier in Scotland after defeating Papua New Guinea by six runs.

The Group A match was rescheduled from Saturday (August 31) due to rain and the weather continued to cause havoc at Forfarshire Cricket Club in Dundee.

Bangladesh had scored 103/8 before the rain hampered their efforts with 16.3 overs played.

Fahima Khatun top scored with the bat for Bangladesh in an unbeaten knock of 32 as Papua New Guinea bowler Sibona Jimmy took three wickets for 17 runs in a 3.3 over spell.

Officials used the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method to set Papua New Guinea a revised target of 59 runs from eight overs.

They struggled to 52/5 as the eight overs ended, handed Bangladesh a six-run triumph and two crucial points at the top of the group.

Tomorrow Bangladesh face hosts Scotland and Papua New Guinea take on the United States.

Bangladesh have four points from two games with Scotland and Papua New Guinea on two points apiece.

The top two in the group will join the top two from Group B, Ireland and Thailand, in the semi-finals.

Ireland and Thailand face each other tomorrow in the bid to top Group B, while already-eliminated sides The Netherlands and Namibia do battle.

The event's two finalists will ensure a place at next year's ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Australia.
