World champion and Olympic cross-country silver medallist Ebba Andersson has been named as the winner of a prestigious national award in Sweden.

The 21-year-old, a member of the Swedish 4x5 kilometres relay teams which claimed the gold medal at this year's World Championships in Seefeld and silver at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, has received the Sixten Jernberg prize.

The award - named after Sixten Jernberg, considered one of the greatest cross-country skiers of all time - recognises achievements in national competitions and does not take into account international performances.

Aside from her Nordic World Ski Championships gold, Andersson won both the 10km and 15km events at the National Championships in Sundsvall.

Andersson joins a stellar list of previous winners of the award, including Olympic individual sprint champion Stina Nilsson, who claimed the prize in 2015.

Three-time Olympic and World Championships gold medallist Charlotte Kalla is among the other Swedish skiers to receive the award.

The announcement provides a further boost for Andersson, who the Swedish Ski Association believe has a bright career ahead of her.
