The trials lasted from Monday to Friday (March 11 to 15), with 11 sailors testing the D-Zero, Laser Standard and Laser Radial, Melges 14 and RS Aero boats.

They sailed each boat for around an hour before participating in feedback sessions with an evaluation panel at the end of the day, giving their view on issues such as athletic suitability, performance, appeal, customisation, transportation, standardisation of equipment, quality of product and sustainability.

The evaluation panel consists of members from the re-evaluation working party, World Sailing committees, Board of Directors and the World Sailing technical team.

They also received daily presentations from the manufacturers on universality, quality control and cost.

World Sailing launched the tender process in May 2018 which invited class associations and manufacturers to tender for the men's and women's one person dinghy following World Sailing's Olympic re-evaluation policy, approved by World Sailing's Council at the 2017 Annual Conference in Mexico.

The D-Zero, Laser Standard and Laser Radial, Melges 14 and RS Aero boats were shortlisted for closely mirroring the technical criteria for the event.

A report will be compiled from the sea trial feedback and the equipment will be decided on later this year. 

The men and women's one-person dinghy will be held in Marseille during the 2024 Olympic Games, alongside the other sailing events.
