Austria’s Daniel Fetz and Great Britain’s Steph Caller won the respective men’s and women’s masters wakeboard gold medals on the first day of finals at the International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation World Cable Wakeboard and Wakeskate Championships in Buenos Aires. 

Fetz posted a winning score of 70.67 points with Britain’s Dan Nott second on 68.67 and France’s Roman Styczen third on 54.67 at the Argentinean capital’s Pampa Cable Park.

In the women’s event, Caller triumphed with 63.67 points.

Home favourite Sofia Grimau was the silver medallist with 47.00 points and France’s Julie Dromer took the bronze with 40.00.

Among today’s other winners were France’s Raphael Menconi in the veteran men's wakeboard competition and Poland’s Iwona Niemiec-Satola in the women’s equivalent.

Menconi registered a score of 65.00 points to hold off Italy’s Rolando Fociani, second with 47.33, and Russia’s Alexander Kacheev, third with 44.00.

Niemiec-Satola, meanwhile, prevailed on 50.00 points with Brazil’s Flavia Fonseca and fellow Pole Julia Wengrzynska completing the top three on 39.33 and 36.33 respectively.

Also tasting victory today were Britain’s Max Cuckney in the boys’ wakeboard event and France’s Aurelie Godet in the girls’ competition.

Cuckney came out on top with 74.00 points, while Godet did so with 77.67.

The boys’ podium was completed by France’s Maxime Roux with 71.00 points and Egypt’s Kareem Ahdy with 57.33.

Russia’s Irina Ignateva was the runner-up to Godet with 75.33 points, bettering the score of third-place finisher Jolina Thormann of Germany by a margin of exactly 30 points. 

Action in Buenos Aires is due to continue tomorrow with finals in the junior men’s and women’s wakeskate events, and junior men’s and women’s wakeboard competitions.
