Russia and China were unable to overhaul the United States as women's team qualification concluded at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Doha.

The US team had featured on the first of the two days of qualifying in the Aspire Dome, where they finished on a score of 174.429 yesterday.

Russia and China took to the apparatus today, but neither proved able to get close to the total set by the Americans.

Angelina Melnikova led the Russian challenge as she achieved a total of 55.465, the fifth highest individual score in qualifying.

Her efforts helped the Russian team finish second in team qualification on a score of 165.497.

China completed the top three with a total of 165.196, with Canada fourth on 163.897.

Brazil, Japan, France and Germany were able to clinch the remaining spots on offer in the team all-around final, with Britain and The Netherlands ending as the two reserve teams in Qatar.

Individual all-around qualification was topped by the United States' Simone Biles, who scored 60.965 yesterday, despite suffering from a kidney stone.

The American finished clear of her team-mate Morgan Hurd and Japan's Mai Murkami, who completed the top three with scores of 56.465 and 55.632 respectively.

The top 24 athletes all secured their place in the final, with countries limited to two gymnasts.

Biles would end as the top qualifier in three of the four disciplines, as the Olympic all-around champion aims to add to her 10 world titles.

She finished top of the vault, beam and floor events in Qatar’s capital city.

Biles finished second in qualification for the uneven bars, with Belgium’s Nina Derwael qualifying in first place in the discipline.
