Argentina won gold and silver in the synchronised group event at the World Artistic Skating Championships held at the Vendéspace in Mouilleron-Le-Captif in France.

The top Argentine team, named the South American Millennium team, received a standing ovation after their title-winning performance.

The team entertained the crowd in a festival like atmosphere and scored the highest tally, despite incurring a penalty due to a fall.

The Millennium team's compatriots, the Roller Dreams, took the silver medal.

The silver medallists performed a routine to the famous musical film, Grease, complete with flamboyant outfits.

They were rewarded for the colour and energy they brought to the competition.

The Italian Calderara team impressed the audience and judges with their routine entitled "Skeletons" to take the bronze medal.

As the competition came to a close, the athletes celebrated on the rink together.

Four nations were represented in the team event - Argentina, Italy, Germany and Chinese Taipei.

Italy still lead the medal table with three golds, three silvers and one bronze.

The United States are in second place overall with two golds, and Argentina have climbed to third position after their golden success today.

They now have one gold, three silver and two bronze medals.

The Championships continue tomorrow with the junior's solo dance style competitions as well as the group event.
