Ireland won a jump-off with hosts Britain to secure victory at the International Equestrian Federation Jumping Nations Cup event in Hickstead today.

The Irish team, comprised of Trevor Breen, Richie Moloney, Michael Duffy and Anthony Condon, finished level with their British counterparts after two rounds at the All England Jumping Course.

Both quartets had amassed 16 penalties in the opening two rounds, leaving the jump-off as the only way to separate them.

Condon then spearheaded his team to an impressive win as he produced the fastest time of 41.29sec on board Aristio.

His performance condemned Britain, whose squad featured Scott Brash, Holly Smith, Amanda Derbyshire and William Whitaker, to second place at their home Nations Cup event.

Smith, on board Hearts Destiny, was unable to match Condon as she stopped the clock at 43.39.

The Brazilian quartet of Felipe Amaral, Pedro Junqueira, Luiz Felipe Azevedo and Marlon Zanotelli recorded 20 penalties as they finished third.

The triumph for Ireland moved them into third place on the overall Nations Cup standings with the final event in Dublin to come.

Belgium, fifth in Hickstead, lead the way on 420 points, 80 in front of nearest challengers Switzerland.

Ireland occupy third on 335 as they leapfrogged Sweden and Germany.
