Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) will hope to retain the Curtis Cup title at the 40th edition of the golf tournament in New York.

The women's amatuer competition sees GB&I face the challenge of the United States in a team event.

Unlike the Ryder Cup, the tournament has not seen European players added to the GB&I team.

Held on a biennial basis, the host of the competition alternates between the two competing teams.

The US are set to host the 40th edition, which will take place over three days at the Quaker Ridge Golf Club.

Home captain Virginia Derby Grimes has named Mariel Galdiano, Kristen Gillman, Jennifer Kupcho, Andrea Lee, Lucy Li, Sophia Schubert, Lauren Stephenson and Lilia Vu in her team.

They will face the challenge of the GB&I team selected by Scotland's Elaine Farquharson-Black.

Her selection includes India Clyburn, Annabell Fuller, Paula Grant, Alice Hewson, Lily May Humphreys, Sophie Lamb, Shannon McWilliam and Olivia Mehaffey.

Competition will begin tomorrow with the first of three foursomes and three fourball matches.

The same format will take place on the second day, before eight singles matches take place on Sunday (June 10).

Each match is worth one point, with the potential for matches to be halved should the score be level at the end of the 18th hole.

Teams need to reach 10.5 points to assure victory, although the US can retain the title in the event of a 10-all tie.

The last four editions of the event have been won by the host country.
