Finland's Mira Potkonen was among the winners today at the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Women's European Championships at the Asics Arena in Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Potkonen defeated Irma Testa of Italy to reach the quarter-finals in the under-60 kilograms lightweight division.

Poland's Agneta Rygielskan will be her next opponent as she seeks a place in the final.

Potkonen, the world and Olympic bronze medallist, lost the 2016 final to Daria Abramova of Russia.

Abramova is not competing this time around as Russia instead selected Anastasia Belyakova, who shared Olympic bronze with Potkonen in Rio.

The top ten ranked boxers in the 51 kilograms, 57kg, 60kg, 69kg and 75kg categories will be given quota places for next year's European Games in Minsk.

Preliminary rounds will run until Saturday (June 9) before the athletes are given a rest day on June 10.

The semi-finals will then take place on June 11 with the final bouts taking place on June 12.
