Race Imboden claimed home gold at the International Fencing Federation Foil Grand Prix event in Anaheim.

The American fencer was hoping to claim a maiden Grand Prix title at the Anaheim Convention Centre.

He impressed through the early rounds of competition and claimed an impressive 15-10 semi-final win over Italy's Damiano Rosatelli.

It set up a final clash with another Italian, Andrea Cassara, who beat Hong Kong's Nicholas Edward Choi 15-9 in his last four contest.

Imboden would hold his nerve in the final with a 15-10 win over Cassara seeing the American fencer top the podium.

The women's competition saw Olympic champion Inna Deriglazova storm to victory.

The Russian star, a two-time world champion, battled to a narrow 15-14 win over home favourite Lee Kiefer in the first semi-final.

Deriglazova would then face Anne Sauer, who won an all-German semi-final against Germany’s Leonie Ebert by the same scoreline.

Despite the two close last four ties, the gold medal match proved a one sided affair as Deriglazova dominated to secure a 15-3 win.

Romania’s Bianca Pascu claimed women’s sabre gold at the World Cup event in Athens, as she beat Hungary’s Liza Pusztai 15-11 in the final.

They were joined on the podium by beaten semi-finalists Manon Brunet of France and Hungary’s Anna Marton.

Italy won the team title, with South Korea and France rounding off the top three.
