Iran and Kuwait earned gold medals on the final day of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Tehran.

The host nation celebrated success in the women's pentathlon at the Aftab-e Enqelab Sports Complex.

Sepideh Tavakoli claimed the gold medal in the discipline, with the Iranian holding off the challenge of Uzbekistan's Aleksandra Yurkevskaya.

Bronze was earned by Turkmenistan's Lrina Velihanova.

Tavakoli's triumph added to a gold medal for Hossein Keyhani in the men's 3,000 metres, as well as Hassan Taftian's men’s 60m sprint title yesterday.

Iran's final title of the Championships came through Ali Samari, who won the men's shot put gold.

Kuwait enjoyed a hat-trick of titles on the final day, led by Abdulaziz Al-Mandeel's win in the men's 60m hurdles, ending in 7.71sec.

Khaled Al-Subaiee and Majed Al-Zaid followed their compatriot's achievements by winning the triple jump and heptathlon events.

The event was seen as key to athletes' preparations for the World Indoor Championships, due to take place in Birmingham in March.
