Guatemala were crowned winners of the women’s wheelchair basketball competition on the penultimate day of the Para Central American Games in Managua.

The Guatemalan team proved too strong for rivals El Salvador in the gold medal match at the Sports Center Spain, as they earned a 13-3 win.

Alba Puac was the star performer, as she was responsible for nine of Guatemala’s points.

Hosts Nicaragua ended the competition on a high, with their women’s team beating Honduras 7-0 in the bronze medal match.

Nicaragua were able to book their place in the final of the men’s event, with their team seeing off the challenge of Guatemala.

A strong display throughout the match saw the home favourites pull clear to claim a 67-39 victory.

They will now take on El Salvador, who overcame Costa Rica 54-42 in their semi-final match.

Both the gold and bronze medal matches are scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Goalball competitions continue with Guatemala enjoying an impressive day in the men’s event, with their team earning a 9-5 win over Costa Rica.

The result put them top of the standings, guaranteeing them a place in the semi-finals of the competition.

They will face the challenge of El Salvador for a place in the final, while Costa Rica take on Nicaragua.
