The 2015 European champion produced a superb display to win her second event in three races after a victory in Lake Placid.

She clocked a combined time of 1min 22.213sec across her two runs on the track in the Thuringian Forest.

“It finally worked out," said the winner. 

"My home race is always the most difficult race of the season, because my relatives and friends are all expecting a lot from me. 

"But I managed to tune it out this year. 

"I knew what I was capable of, but it was a clean slate for everyone today because the conditions in final practice were so atrocious.”

Team-mate Natalie Geisenberger improved upon her own track record of 41.074 seconds on her second run.

But a slower first meant she had to settle for second overall in 1:22.260.

World champion Tatjana Hüfner completed the German sweep with third place in 1:22.546.

Germany also claimed gold and silver medals in the doubles event today.

Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken finished first in 1:21.535 to defeat team-mates Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt, who managed 1:21.542.

Peter Penz and Georg Fischler of Austria finished third in 1:22.033.

Men's and relay races are scheduled for tomorrow.
