The Sudan Olympic Committee (SOC) is to distribute sports equipment at five refugee camps in Darfur.

The region in the west of the African country is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis since conflict broke out in 2003 between rebels and the Government.

According to the United Nations, 300,000 people have been killed with 2.5 million displaced and living in camps.

Darfur has also been hit by famine and extreme poverty.

The SOC's sports equipment will be donated as part of the "No War No More, Sport is a Core" project.

This has been funded by the International Olympic Committee, with the aim of using sport as a tool for peace.

A distribution ceremony will be held on December 6 when the equipment will be handed out.

Sudan sent six athletes to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.

They were represented by three runners, two swimmers and a judoka.

The country's solitary Olympic medal in its history is a silver which came at Beijing 2008.

Ismail Ahmed Ismail finished second in the men's 800 metres in the Chinese capital.
