The penultimate leg of the 2017 International Swimming Federation (FINA) World Cup is scheduled to take place in Tokyo over the coming two days as athletes look to add to their points' tallies going into the final stage in Singapore this weekend.

Competition will be held at the 2020 Olympic Games host city’s Tatsumi International Swimming Center.

Twelve events will be held on each of the two days.

Russia’s Vladimir Morozov will be among those looking to make their mark in Tokyo.

Having won the men’s 50 metres freestyle and 100m individual medley titles on the second and final day of last week's FINA World Cup leg in Beijing, Morozov eyed a world record in Japan’s capital.

"I will compete 100m freestyle in Tokyo and try to break the world record," he was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

"I am very close, while I will swim 100m individual medley in Singapore."

Another stand-out performer in Beijing was Sweden's Sarah Sjöström, who continued her march towards the overall women's title by claiming two victories on day two.

Sjöström was hugely impressive at the Water Cube, which hosted swimming events at the 2008 Olympic Games, as she won the 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly events.

The 2017 FINA World Cup is made up of eight legs in all.

Moscow, Berlin, Eindhoven, Hong Kong and Doha all played host to a leg prior to Beijing.

South Africa’s Chad Le Clos and Sjöström topped the respective men’s and women’s standings for cluster one, which included the Moscow, Berlin and Eindhoven legs.

Cluster two, which included the Hong Kong and Doha legs, was won by Le Clos and Hungary’s Katinka Hosszú.

The finale in Singapore is due to take place on Saturday (November 18) and Sunday (November 19).
