The South American side opened the scoring with a single in the first end before a two-point steal in the second.

A further two points in the third ensured they reach halfway with a sensational 6-1 lead.

France battled valiantly but the gap proved too big and they were eventually defeated, 7-3.

"It feels really great," said Brazilian skip Marcelo Cabral De Mello.  

"It’s taken so much time, three years, to get that first win but finally we got it. 

"We began very well, they took a little time to get used to the ice and we profited from that. 

"Now that we’ve got our first victory we can enjoy it and go for another one [against Belarus]."

Defending champions Russia were also forced to dig deep today, requiring an extra-end to record a 6-5 victory over Wales.

Skip Alexey Stukalskiy produced a superb draw to the button with the final stone to preserve their unbeaten record.

Canada also required an extra-end before overcoming Australia, 6-5, while Germany's unbeaten run was end after they lost by the same margin against Turkey.

Germany's day went from bad to worse as they then lost 7-5 to England.

Norway, the winner's of the inaugural mixed team world event in 2015, also showed their fighting quality with a 5-4 success over Israel.

Action will continue until October 14.

Each team consists of two male and two female players.

Round-robin competition is due to take place until Thursday (October 12) before knock-out action begins.
