England captain Sasha Corbin has claimed this week's European Open Netball Championships provide a chance for players to secure their places at next year's Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.

The tournament is due to get underway in Cardiff tomorrow.

Defending champions England will go up against hosts Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and invitational side Fiji.

All five teams will be looking to hone their preparations as they begin to turn their attention to Gold Coast 2018.

The Games are scheduled to take place between April 4 and 15 next year and Corbin believes this tournament could give players a chance to impress.

"It’s great to have everyone here doing what they do and the main thing is everyone’s pushing for those positions in the Commonwealth Games squad," she said.

Corbin added: "It’s not set yet – no one knows who’s going on that plane to the Commonwealth Games and it’s a fantastic opportunity for the young people to come through.

"They’re so talented and it’s just about giving them an opportunity and this is a fantastic way to do that."

The tournament, an official International Netball Federation event, will take place at the Sport Wales National Centre.

Action is due to begin tomorrow and last until Sunday (October 8).

UK public-service broadcaster the BBC has acquired rights to the tournament.

They will show live coverage and highlights of the event on television, online platforms and via the BBC Sport mobile application.
