French star Teddy Riner has signed a five-year contract to be the head of Paris Saint-Germain's judo programme, it has been announced.

The double Olympic champion, who recently secured his ninth world title and has won his last 138 matches in a row, will help relaunch the judo section of the famous French club.

The 28-year-old trained with the club from its inception in 1992 before it was suspended 10 years later.

He will be tasked with recruiting young talent for the judo school to help the team's main aim of developing a squad of athletes who are capable of representing France at international competitions.

"I am very happy to join the Paris Saint-Germain Judo and bring back the Red and Blue Judo," Riner said.

"I am confident in the club's ability to further develop my discipline through its high-level experience and its media appeal.

"The club advances with ambition and humility.

"We give ourselves several years to have results with titled judokas and others in the making. "

Paris Saint-Germain's main team is the men's football side, who are in the French top flight and broke the world record transfer fee when they signed Brazilian striker Neymar from Barcelona for €222 million (£200 million/$260 million) earlier this summer.

The club also has a women's football team and men's handball and esports sides.

"The prospect of bringing Teddy Riner back to his training club and the possibility of reopening the prestigious book of judo at Paris Saint-Germain has excited us," Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi said.

"Teddy Riner is a man of heart.

"Being able to sign with the greatest champion of the discipline convinced us to create this new sports section that we will develop in the years to come.

"Teddy Riner is one of the most titled and beloved sportsmen of the French and one of the most respected athletes in the world of sport.

"We cannot wait to see him wearing our colours."
