South Korea's President Moon Jae-in has continued his mission to promote next year's Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang during his visit to New York City to attend the 72nd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

He has taken part in an event in United States' biggest city and urged Koreans living in New York to help them make Pyeongchang 2018 a success.

Moon has also held talks with Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May where they discussed the positive effects hosting the Olympic Games can have on a country.

About 300 Koreans and Korean-Americans living in New York were invited to an event with Moon and First Lady Kim Jung-sook where they were appointed "special promoters" as he tried to rally support for Pyeongchang 2018.

"Please let other people know about the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do Province, which is cozy, dynamic and beautiful," Moon told the crowd.

A similar event had been held in New York City before the vote in July 2011 when Pyeongchang, bidding for a third consecutive time, defeated Munich and Annecy to be awarded the Olympics.

"Then, about 200 Koreans and Korean-Americans participated, and it really heated up the vive," Moon said.

"When we come together like that, the dream of a Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games came true."

Moon also met May and presented her with a Pyeongchang 2018 uniform.

"I welcome Princess Anne, the daughter of Queen Elizabeth II, to Korea next year to attend the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games as a member of the IOC (International Olympic Committee)," said Moon.

"I hope many UK tourists come to Korea and join the event to boost world peace and harmony."

May wished Moon good luck for Pyeongchang 2018.

"The UK knows very well about the positive effects of hosting the Olympics, from our experience hosting the London 2012 Olympics," she told him.

"I hope that Korea successfully hosts the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games."
