Portugal and Italy have both qualified for the last 16 of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup after collecting valuable points on the final day of action in Groups C and D today.

The Portuguese team sealed second spot in Group C after defeating Iran 2-1 at the Incheon Stadium.

They were forced to come from behind though as Iran's Reza Shekari scored from a corner after just four minutes.

Diogo Goncalves scored a superb equaliser in the 54th minute, which saw the start of a period of dominance for Portugal.

They eventually found a winner with four minutes to play when substitute Xande Silva's cross deflected off Iran defender Nima Taheri and into the net.

Portugal will now face hosts South Korea in the round of 16 on Tuesday (May 30) in Cheonan.

Zambia had already qualified and finished in top spot despite losing 1-0 to Costa Rica at the Cheonan Sports Complex today.

Jostin Daly scored the only goal of the match on 15 minutes to also send Costa Rica through to the last 16 as one of the best third place teams.

Zambia and Costa Rica's opponents are yet to be confirmed.

Italy also made it through to the round of 16 after drawing 2-2 with Japan at the Cheonan Sports Complex today.

Riccardo Orsolini and Guiseppe Panico put the Italians 2-0 up inside seven minutes.

However, a brace from Ritsu Doan brought Japan level and also saw them through in third place.

Like Zambia, Uruguay had already qualified and knew a draw would guarantee first place.

They went on to claim a point after sharing the spoils in a 0-0 draw with South Africa at the Incheon Stadium.

Action is due to continue tomorrow when Groups E and F conclude.

Group E sees New Zealand face France at the Daejeon World Cup Stadium and Honduras go up against Vietnam at the Jeonju World Cup stadium.

France have already qualified for the next round while Vietnam and New Zealand will be looking to secure second place, which is held by the latter.

Senegal's clash with Ecuador at the Jeonju Stadium and the United States' meeting with Saudi Arabia at the Daejeon Stadium make up the Group F line-up.

All four teams can still qualify for the last-16.

The four best third placed sides will also going into the next round.
