Slovenian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) representatives have met with the country's Minister of Education, Science and Sport to discuss a new law on Para-sport.

The governing body's chairman Damijan Lazar and vice president Joze Okoren were joined by Paralympians Francek Gorazd Tirsek and Darko Duric for the meeting with Maja Makovec Brencic.

Shooter Tirsek won mixed 10 metre air rifle standing SH2 silver medals at London 2012 and Rio 2016, while Duric is a swimmer.

The draft of the new law calls for improved regulation for Para-sport in Slovenia.

It will mean that Para-sport will be recognised as being equal to able-bodied sport for the first time, with the rights of both groups the same.

The Slovenian NPC will also be recognised as the governing body for Para-sport in the European nation.

Brencic recognised "the importance of sport for people with impairments, its diversity and different roles in bringing about psychological and physical benefits".

She also spoke about social equality from grass roots to high performance level.

The NPC will nominate one person to sit on the Expert Council for Sports which is being established by the Government for decision making.

The governing body will also be responsible for training people with impairments to take up professional roles within sport.
