The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has announced Englishman Johnny Grave as the organisation's new chief executive.

Grave replaces Michael Muirhead, who left the position in October but has continued in the role at the request of the WICB, who are based in Antigua.

Starting the role in February, Grave was appointed following what has been described by the WICB as "a rigorous recruitment process led by PricewaterhouseCoopers Barbado", a professional services network based in London.

The West Indies is a confederation of 15 mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries, British dependencies and non-British dependencies.

"I am delighted to have been given the honour of becoming the new chief executive of the WICB," said Grave.

"I am genuinely excited by the opportunity of improving cricket at all levels within the region and am looking forward to working with the many stakeholders who are committed to the long-term development of West Indies cricket."

Grave currently works for the Professional Cricketers’ Association in England, where he has spent the last nine years as commercial director.

Grave has also held numerous positions at Surrey Cricket Club.

Between 2004 and 2007 Grave held the role of head of media and sales and prior to that he was the communications manager for two years.

"Johnny has a proven track record of success in his career to date, and a huge amount of relevant experience and will add exceptional value to the organisation," said WICB President Dave Cameron.

"Johnny was the unanimous choice of the interview panel and clearly shares our vision for the future of West Indies Cricket."

The WICB said the top priorities once Grave settles in his new position would be the management and oversight of its US $40 million (£33 million/€37.5 million) budget, the creation of new commercial opportunities, helping to drive revenue into the whole game, along with an increased focus on player relations, and improved performances on and off the field.
