Kazakhstan had a mixed day at the International Boxing Association (AIBA) Youth World Championships as two of their boxers progressed from the quarter-finals and two were eliminated in Saint Petersburg today.

Their under-81 kilogram light heavyweight Bekzad Nurdauletov was their most convincing performer after triumphing on all of the judges' scorecards after his contest with Ireland’s Christopher O’Reilly.

Four judges scored the contest 29-28 in his favour, with the other official giving him the verdict 30-27 in the 7,000 capacity Sibur Arena.

All five judges’ scorecards are being used to determine the winner of each bout as part of the format of the fifth edition of the event.

Nurdauletov will face Ukraine’s Roman Savitskyi in the semi-finals, after he recorded a unanimous points victory in his fight with Sammy Lee of Wales.

Kazakh fans were also able to celebrate a clear victory for Bek Nurmaganbet in the 75kg middleweight event, with their fighter defeating the United States’ Nikita Ababiy.

He faces a semi-final against Germany’s Vezir Agirman, following his 4-1 points triumph against Shokhrukhbek Rustamov of Uzbekistan.

There was disappointment for Kazakhstan's flyweight competitor Aidos Arapov, as he lost 3-2 on points in the under-52kg event to Cuba’s Elio Crespo Santos.

France’s Enzo Grau will take on Santos in the last four, after his 4-1 victory over Artem Demianenko of Ukraine.

The fourth and final Kazakh fighter to take to the ring would also find himself on the end of a narrow loss.

Aiboldy Daurenuly was deemed to be the winner of his over-91kg super-heavyweight encounter with Giorgi Tchigladze by two judges, but the remaining three officials ruled in favour of the Georgian boxer.

After his narrow win Tchigladze will take on Germany’s Nelvie Rama Tiafack, who was a unanimous points victor against Ukraine’s Viacheslav Havryliuk.

The competition, open to male boxers born in 1998 and 1999, is due to continue tomorrow.
