International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing made a "successful" site visit to the venue for the 2017 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships in Tarvisio in Italy.

The Championships, which will be the last major competition ahead of the Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, will be held between January 22 and 31.

Representatives of IPC Alpine Skiing visited the competition site to assess the facilities for athletes, teams, spectators and media, and also inspected the proposed courses.

Start positions for both the technical and speed races were reviewed, which overlook the picturesque Monte Lussari.

Markus Walser, chairman of the IPC Alpine Skiing Sport Technical Committee (STC), was present along with Ozzie Sawicki, the STC's head of technical control and officiating.

Dimitrije Lazarovski, the head of IPC Snow Sports, was also in attendance alongside members of the IPC broadcast and media teams.

"The Organising Committee have put a huge amount of time and effort into the organisation of these Championships, paying close attention to the details," said Walser.

"They have also made plans to expand the reach of the event beyond Tarvisio, into neighbouring countries and into local schools."

The Organising Committee are keen to host a competition that attracts widespread interest from fans in neighbouring Austria and Slovenia, as well as in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region where the competition is being held.

The organisers are also considering plans for various events to "enhance the experience of spectators and participants", which will aim to give them a taste of the local culture.

"I was very happy to welcome IPC Alpine Skiing to Tarvisio, to continue our work together on this great event," said Organising Committee chairman Paolo Tavian.

"We gathered many different people covering various areas, and our good relationship continues.

"I very much look forward to hosting all the athletes and teams in Tarvisio in just a few months time.

"The Mayor also asked me to pass on his good wishes, especially to those teams who have already registered their interest to compete."

The event is set to be the largest in Para-skiing outside of the Paralympics, with more than 140 skiers from 30 countries expected to compete.

Men's and women’s sitting, standing and visually impaired races will be held in technical and speed events.
