A five-year partnership between the Agitos Foundation and the Foundation for Global Sports Development (GSD) has been announced, with both organisations aiming to work together to raise awareness and knowledge of Para-sport across the world.

Educating young people about the Paralympic Movement has been viewed as a key aim, focusing on its vision and values, to athletes and the Games itself.

Support will also be extended to Paralympic athletes, with the GSD due to support the Agitos Foundation – the development arm of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) – in delivering three areas of education in the build up to Tokyo 2020.

They will aid the IPC’s "Proud Paralympian" programme, due to be relaunched at Rio 2016.

The programme provides education for athletes and Paralympians from the beginning of their sporting careers through their transition after retiring from sport.

The Paralympic School Programme will also be supported by the partnership as, through collaboration with the Nippon Foundation, the Agitos Foundation will create a global toolkit to promote inclusion through the Paralympic values and para-sport for young people aged between six and 12.

A pilot project is due to take place in Japan during October.

The GSD are then due to provide further support to selected projects, such as festivals, school programmes and para-sport exhibitions worldwide.

"Striving to reach our aspiration of a more inclusive society, we want to reach out to the next generation to help them understand what can be achieved through the Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration and equality,” said Georg Schlachtenberger, director of the Agitos Foundation.

"By combining our inclusion efforts with education for Para-athletes, supporting them to have successful careers both on and off the field of play and, therefore, living and promoting the values, we believe we can make a huge difference to changing perceptions.

"I am grateful to GSD for their continued support of this important work and welcome them to #TeamAgitos.”

The GSD, who deliver and supporting initiatives which promote fair play, education and developmental benefits of sports for young people, have aided various projects since 2011.

They have worked to deliver a youth training camp in El Salvador, an IPC European Para snow sport youth circuit, as well as helping with the promotion of the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships A Pool and working on education projects in Benin, Guinea, Tanzania and through IPC Powerlifting.

The Agitos Foundation have also called on other potential partners to join them and #TeamAgitos in helping educational activities to achieve the greatest reach.
