Three judges have been sanctioned by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Disciplinary Commission for giving biased or unsatisfactory scores during the Rio 2016 test event in April.

Colombia’s Jaime Eduardo Corredor Segura has been excluded from participating in any FIG activities and other international events for a period of three months, for biased judging in favour of two of his country’s gymnasts during the men’s horizontal bar qualification competition.

Jossimar Orlando Calvo Moreno was Colombia’s strongest performer, ranking sixth with 14.933 points, while compatriot Javier Sandoval Afanador finished 30th with 13.950.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Berta Veiga Vila and Portugal’s Catarina Paula Leandro de Susa e Silva have both received warnings for unsatisfactory judging in the ribbon group finals.

Neither Spain nor Portugal were competing in the event, which was won by Germany ahead of Uzbekistan and Greece.

Following the test event, the FIG conducted an in-depth analysis of the scores given by sworn judges in order to ensure that athletes' results were compatible with the current code of points.

The evaluation exposed a few questionable scores, which led the FIG to open disciplinary proceedings.

Based on information provided by the involved parties, the Disciplinary Commission - composed of Michelle Duncan, Paul Engelmann and Bernhard Welten - handed down the aforementioned sanctions.

The three judges in question can file an appeal with the FIG Appeal Tribunal within 21 days of receiving notification of their sanctions.

Earlier this month, the FIG Disciplinary Commission sanctioned a men’s artistic gymnastics judge who had participated at the test event.
