Brazil’s Pedro Barros claimed a superb gold in men’s skateboard park competition to bring the Austin X Games to a close at the Circuit of the America’s motorsport facility.

The Texan city was hosting the competition for the third and final time, after United States sports broadcaster ESPN decided seek to find another American city to stage the event in 2017 and 2018.

Barros ensured that the four-day event would end on a high after producing an excellent first run in the skateboard park competition to finish top of the standings.

He began the competition with the intention of extending his run of X Games podium finishes to nine, having earned five gold and three silver medals in previous competitions.

The 21-year-old was rewarded with a score of 90.33 points by the judges for his first run and, despite being unable to better the display with his final two efforts, it proved more than enough to seal the gold.

Home favourites Curren Caples and Chris Russell completed the podium positions by finishing with scores of 87.66 and 83.33 points respectively.

The US celebrated a gold medal in the BMX dirt competition after Kevin Peraza’s best two runs gave him a combined total of 88.00 points.

Britain’s Ben Wallace earned his best score on his third and final run of the event to end on a tally of 81.00 points to win the silver medal and 73.00 was enough for America rider James Foster to claim the bronze.
