Australia’s Chloe Hosking claimed overall victory at the Tour of Chongming Island despite being unable to earn the final stage victory in Xincheng Park.

The final stage of the International Cycling Union (UCI) Women’s World Tour race was the shortest at 99 kilometres, with the peloton completing an 11km circuit nine times.

Attacks proved to be futile around the route, with the majority of teams content to contest a sprint finish at the close of the stage.

A crash in the final kilometre of the race took several riders out of contention for the victory, as the main field readied themselves for the sprint.

As she had done in taking victory on the opening stage, Chinese Taipei’s Ting Ying Huang kicked late in the sprint to move into the lead.

The winner of the women’s road race at the 2015 Asian Cycling Championships was able to hold off her rivals to claim victory in two hours, 26min and six seconds.

France’s Roxane Fournier and The Netherlands’ Ilona Hoeksma were able to claim second and third on the stage, after finishing on the same time as the victor.

Huang, who began the day nine seconds off the race lead, moved into second place in the standings.

She eventually finished one second adrift of the Wiggle High5 rider Hosking, who earned the overall victory at the race for the second time in her career, having done so back in 2009.

The next UCI Women’s World Tour race will be the Amgen Tour of California, which is scheduled to take place from May 19 to 22.
