Department store chain Hudson’s Bay have unveiled the collection of clothing Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes will wear at Rio 2016.

The iconic retailer will provide competitors with leisurewear, jackets, trousers and accessories as part of their uniform for the Games in the Brazilian city.

The range includes clothing for the Closing Ceremony and for those athletes who earn a place on the podium in their respective events.

It represents the seventh time the company has performed the role for the Canadian teams.

Hudson’s Bay, which has 90 stores and is the oldest company of its kind in North America, have also teamed up world-renowned Canadian fashion designers Dean and Dan Caten, Dsquared2, to produce the Opening Ceremony uniform.

It features a jacket, trousers and shirt in a red, white and black colour scheme and is designed to provide a more formal take on the athletic clothing in the collection, comprised of 23 items.

“The Canadian Olympic Committee is excited to work with Hudson's Bay again for the Canadian Olympic team's Rio 2016 kit," Canadian Olympic Committee  President Tricia Smith said.

"The kit is unique, quintessentially Canadian and will be proudly worn by our athletes when they represent our great country on the world stage in Rio.

“Thank you to Hudson's Bay's team for their consistent creativity and long-standing partnership over the years."

Around 315 athletes will represent Canada at the Olympic Games, due to take place from August 5 to 21, while 170 athletes from the nation are due to compete at the Paralympic Games, scheduled to be held from September 7 to 18.

The range of clothing, revealed at a special event on Facebook live, will also be available to the general public.

“The Canadian Paralympic Committee is appreciative of its longstanding partnership with Hudson's Bay Company and we are excited to work together on growing the Paralympic brand," said Gaétan Tardif, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

"Today's collection truly reflects a strong Canadian identity and we know that team Canada, and indeed Canadians from coast to coast, will wear these clothes with tremendous national pride.

"With less than five months to go until the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, we look forward with great anticipation to Canada delivering a strong performance in Rio."
