Singapore's Feng Tianwei rolled back the years to stun China's third seed Zhu Yuling and reach the semi-finals of the women's singles at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) World Tour Kuwait Open today.

Feng, best known for beating Chinese superstars Ding Ning and Liu Shiwen in the women’s final to propel Singapore to a shock gold medal at the 2010 World Team Championships in Moscow, had lost eight of her nine meetings against Zhu going into today's clash.

The seventh seed performed superbly, however, at the Salwa Club to win in five games 9-11,9-11,11-6,9-11,7-11.

“Today I didn’t think about the result, just play the point and enjoy the match," she said.

“My backhand was really good today and my head was clear.

"Playing Zhu Yuling that’s vital, her strength is once she establishes a good tempo, a good rhythm to her play.”

Feng will now face take on another top Chinese player for a place in the final, second seed Ding Ning, the highest ranked player left in the draw after world number one Liu Shiwen also suffered defeat.

Li will now face Kasumi Ishikawa of Japan, who defeated Taiwan's Cheng I-Ching 11-9, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6 in her quarter-final.

China continued their utter dominance on the men's side with Ma Long, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong and Zhang Jike all winning quarter-final duals this evening.

Xu was forced to dig deepest in a battle of two left handers against Japan's Mizutani, winning a seven-set thriller 6-11, 11-7, 12-10, 11-7. 8-11, 9-11, 12-10.

Ma overcame Belarus' Vladimir Samsonov 11-8, 11-3, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6 and Fan recovered from a poor start to beat Tang Peng of Hong Kong 9-11, 9-11, 11-8, 11-3, 11-6, 11-8.
