Having achieved a personal best yesterday, the duo continued their form throughout their free dance.

They were awarded level four for all elements, but saw their footwork graded at level three.

The brother and sister combination celebrated  another personal best having achieved a score of 108.76 points, taking their overall tally to 181.62.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates were unable to surpass their compatriots tally, despite an impressive performance which scored 107.59 points.

The pairing finished the competition on 174.64, leaving them to settle for the silver medal for the second consecutive year.

Last year’s winners, Canadia's Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje will be disappointed by their free dance programme as they slipped from second position overnight to finish with a bronze medal, scoring 173.85.

“Winning is a really gratifying feeling,” said Alex Shibutani, previously a silver and bronze medallist with his sister at the Championships.

“We’ve been working so hard over the past four seasons in particular, but this season we’ve been really focused on making sure we make the most of every opportunity.

“This was a great opportunity today and we’re very excited looking forward to Worlds.”

China’s Boyang Jin delivered a personal best performance in the men’s short programme to lead the competition at the halfway stage.

The 2015 World Junior silver medallist scored a total of 98.45 points to establish a commanding lead over Japan’s Shoma Uno, who lies second on 92.99

It leaves Jin in pole position to succeed Denis Ten as the champion, with the Kazakh skater pulling out of the competition yesterday due to an injury.

Jin’s compatriot Han Yan lies in bronze medal position on 89.57.

Japan’s Takahito Mura and Canada’s three-time world champion Patrick Chan remain in contention on 89.08 and 86.22 points respectively. 

The Four Continents Championships exclude European skaters and is due to continue tomorrow.
