Yelistratova, 27, missed the opening move of the race which saw the United States’ Summer Cook lead a four-woman group out of the swim alongside Spain’s Carolina Routier, Mexico’s Lizeth Rueda Santos and Russia’s Anastasia Abrosimova.

Their 15 second gap was short-lived, however, as they were joined by the majority of the field at the close of the first of six laps on the bike.

Yelistratova was among the fastest to exit the bike-run transition and utilised her strength in the running discipline to build an impressive advantage over her rivals, finishing well clear to cross the line in 1 hour 59min 32sec.

“I’m very excited, my second World Cup gold and I’m very happy,” she said afterwards, with her first having come back in 2010 at Tiszaujvaros, Hungary.

“It was a big motivation when I finished the bike section in the leading group, and I know that I always run 30 seconds faster.

“My friends and my coach said I could slow down a bit in the last lap, but I wanted to make sure I get the first place.”

Cook secured her first World Cup podium by finishing in 1:59:52, while Spain’s Miriam Casillas Garcia took bronze in 2:00:05.

Similarly to the women’s event, breakaways in the men's race proved unsuccessful throughout the duration of the bike leg, with Denmark’s Andreas Schilling’s lone move one of several futile efforts.

Pereira and Britain’s Matthew Sharp hit the front as the run section began, with the former able to produce a strong performance to eventually take victory in 1:45:10.

A fading Sharp was overtaken by several rivals in the closing stages and falling out of contention, leaving Norway’s Kristian Blummenfelt to take silver in 1:45:21.

Canada’s Kyle Jones took bronze, a further six seconds behind, his second consecutive World Cup podium after earning the silver medal in the Cozumel World Cup.

“I’m very happy that I finished in first position, I didn’t do very well in the swimming but I don’t know why,” 27-year-old Pereira said.

“In the bike I pushed to get back in the front.

"That second group really worked together to get up on the first group, which was really important me.

"On the running I went easy for two laps and one last lap at full speed."
