Tickets for the 15th edition of the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby have officially gone on sale.
Around 650,000 tickets will be available for the event, due to take place from July 4 to July 18, and spectators interested can purchase them exclusively from specific Bank South Pacific branches across the country for the next two weeks.
They will then be made available at other outlets this month, and an emphasis has been placed on affordability in order to attract as many fans as possible, with prices starting as low as K10 (£2.50/$3.75/€3.50).
As well as individual tickets, Port Moresby 2015 also announced a venue package will be made available, which gives spectators the chance to watch different sports at a venue for an upfront discounted price.
"We have ensured that the tickets are priced for everyone to purchase without having to dig deep into their pockets so they can have the opportunity to see some of the best athletes in the world perform on our soil," Port Moresby 2015 chief executive Peter Stewart said.
At an event held to launch the tickets, National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop purchased the first two seats for the OpeningCeremony, and they were presented to Bernadette Ove, Principal of Jubilee Secondary School, and Esther Sapulai, an employee of Papua New Guinean airline Air Niugini for over 40 years.
Bank South Pacific, who are the official sponsor of the Pacific Games, have been involved closely with the ticketing process and the company's chief executive Robin Fleming is hoping the pricing will allow everyone to get involved with what will be a landmark event for sport in the region.
"We are now committing our people and 17 of our branches to ensure Papua New Guineans have the opportunity to witness the Games," he said.
"The Pacific Games are not just about sports and strengthening relations with the rest of the Pacific, they are an opportunity to restore unity, pride and nationalism, and we encourage everyone to purchase your tickets and be part of the 15th Pacific Games."
Around 3,000 athletes from 21 nations are due to compete across 28 different sports at the 2015 Games, which will offer competitors the chance to earn Olympic qualification for Rio 2016.
