London 2012 champion Soryan defeated Olympic bronze medallist Mingiyan Semenov of Russia 2-1 in the 59 kilogram final at the Gymnastics Palace to move into second place on the all-time Greco-Roman list with seven major titles.

The Iranian joins Cuba's Mijaín López Núñez - who secured his seventh major title yesterday - and Russia's Valery Rezantsev at second on the all-time roll of honour behind another Russian Alexander Karelin, who leads the way with nine World Championships and three Olympic titles.

The 29-year-old trails only Karelin in terms of most wins at the World Championships as he followed up successes in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

In the bronze medal matches, Norway's Stig Andre Berge defeated American Spencer Mango, while home favourite Elmurat Tasmuradov secured victory over Cuba's Ismael Borrero.

Gold for Chingiz Labazanov in the 71kg final ensured Russia finished second behind Iran in the team standings after he overcame Turkey's Yunus Ozel 3-1 in the decider.

Azerbaijan's Rasul Chunayev had too much for Armenian Varsham Boranyan, while Afshim Byabangard of Iran came through a much closer contest with Belarusian Aliaksandr Dzemyanovich to take the bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Artur Aleksanyan ensured Armenia finished the Championships in Tashkent with one gold medal after he secured victory over German Oliver Hassler in just 56 seconds in the 98kg final.

Hassler was Germany's first World Championship finalist in Greco-Roman since 2003, when Konstantin Schneider took a silver medal at 74kg in Creteil, France.

In the bronze medal bouts, Ghasemi Rezaei picked up Iran's third medal of the day with a second-period gut wrench on his way to a 4-1 win over Aleksander Hrabovik of Belarus.

Cenk Ildem ensured Turkey finished third in the team standings with a 1-0 win over Alin Alexuc-Ciurariu of Romania.
