The DOSB headquarters in Frankfurt will begin a two-year construction and renovation period ©HPPConstruction work on the new offices of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) is set to get underway after staff were presented with details of the plans today.

The DOSB moved out of its headquarters in Frankfurt Otto-Fleck-lane last month to a temporary base six kilometres away at Neu-Isenburg.

Last week the DOSB signed the official contract with construction firm Nesseler Grünzig, while architecture outfit HPP is overseeing the design project.

The DOSB was advised by PROPROJEKT Planning Project Management & Consulting and lawyers FPS during the tendering process which began on July 1 last year.

In September 2013, 14 applications were received which were whittled down to five.

The DOSB considered each of the tenders by evaluating their economic and technical benefits before choosing Nesseler Grünzig and HPP.

DOSB director general Michael Vesper claimed the work is necessary because the office is comparable with a "dinosaur" and "in no way [able to] meet the requirements of a modern, functional and prestigious office building".

House One, where DOSB officials are based, will be completely rebuilt, while House Two, where other sporting federations and institutions are housed, will be partially renovated.

Built in the 1970s, House One will be demolished and replaced by a modern five storey building while House Two will be redeveloped incorporating a unique "U" shape.

A new leafy courtyard between the two Houses will also be built and will be known as the DOSB Boulevard.

The DOSB says the project will cost €25 million (£20 million/$34 million).

The city of Frankfurt and the federal state of Hesse will provide €12 million (£9.5 million/$16 million) to help meet some of the costs.

The project will be monitored by regular meetings of a specially convened DOSB Planning Committee, and it is hoped the renovated building will be fully open for use by 2016.
