It was in the pool that the Indonesians proved the dominant force as they amassed 36 gold medals while 31 golds came from athletics.

Sixteen gold medals came from table tennis with chess contributing 10, while the powerlifters contributed four top spot finishes along with one each in archery and sitting volleyball.

That medal haul helped Indonesia finish ahead of rivals Thailand, who were looking to end the Games as the top ranked nation for the sixth time.

Despite securing 41 gold medals in athletics, 26 in swimming and 14 in table tennis, along with further golds in powerlifting, boccia, archery, goalball, football five-a-side and wheelchair basketball, the Thais had to make do with second place which included 82 silver and 70 bronze medals.

Athletics and swimming also provided the lion's share of gold medals for third placed Malaysia as they finished top of the podium on 50 occasions, followed closely by Vietnam who claimed another fourth place with 48 golds to repeat their performance in Solo in 2011.

This year's hosts Myanmar made the most of home advantage as they came in fifth overall claiming 34 gold medals, 26 silvers and 36 bronze.

This year's event saw about 1,600 athletes competing at Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex across 12 sports; archery, athletics, boccia, chess, football 5-a-side, football 7-a-side, goalball, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball.

The 8th ASEAN Para Games are set to take place in December 2015 and hosts Singapore finished seventh on the medal table, behind the Philippines, while Cambodia, Brunei and Laos completed the list of nations, with the latter leaving Naypyidaw without a gold medal.
