October 1 - The Royal Blind School in Edinburgh is hosting a special exhibition on October 10 to mark National Braille WeekDouble Paralympic silver medallist Libby Clegg will host a unique exhibition at Edinburgh's Royal Blind School on Thursday October 10, to celebrate National Braille Week.

Clegg is a former pupil at the prestigious school and the 2011 world T12 100 metres champion will be present at a free-to-enter special exhibition that will feature displays of the innovative ways Scottish charity Royal Blind has used braille to help blind people communicate, along with an exclusive photographic exhibition and display of historic braille equipment.

The 23-year-old 100m and 200m European champion will also be speaking at the event, which is due to from 6pm to 8pm on October 10, about her experience of using braille and other alternative formats.

Clegg suffers from Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy and is registered blind.

"It's National Braille Week in October and I'm trying to brush up on my braille," said the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 silver medallist, who will represent Scotland at next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

"I don't think me and my brothers were the best braille students, it's so hard.

"I am trying to get better though.

"I hope people in Edinburgh will be able to join us on October 10 to learn more about braille and other alternative formats for blind and visually impaired people."

National Braille Week runs from October 7 to 13.

"National Braille Week is focused on raising awareness about the use of braille, and this exhibition is the perfect way to find out how important it is to the lives of blind and visually impaired people," said Davina Shiell, marketing manager at Royal Blind.
