Luciana Aymar was Argentina's flag bearer at the London 2012 Olympic Opening CeremonySeptember 23 - Argentine hockey star Luciana Aymar, widely considered the best female player of all time, has said that the 2014 International Hockey Federation (FIH) Women's World Cup will be her last tournament.

The 36-year-old, who is the only player in history to receive the FIH Player of the Year Award seven times, suggested that she is not immortal, despite hopes that she would appear at Rio 2016 to battle for an Olympic gold medal to complete her collection - she has two silvers and bronzes from across four Games.

"I love hockey, but I'm not 'Highlander'," Aymar admitted, while referring to the 1980s fantasy movie about the immortal Connor MacLeod.

"I would love to play in the World Cup in The Netherlands, but it will be my last tournament."
