Clare Strange 050613June 5 - From four-time Paralympian Clare Strange to 14-year-old Charlotte Moore, the British women's wheelchair basketball squad will be hoping that a good mix of experience and new faces will be what is needed to triumph at the 2013 European Championships.

Alongside Strange (pictured top), Amy Conroy, Madeleine Thompson, Helen Turner, Judith Hamer, Laurie Williams, Sarah Grady, Louise Sugden and Helen Freeman make up the Paralympians on the team, while Sophie Carrigill and Kirsty Wallace join Moore in making their European Championship debuts on the bronze medal holding team.

Head coaches Nigel Smith and Joe Jayaratne selected the British team for the championships, which take place in Frankfurt from June 28 to July 8, to improve on last year's seventh place finish at London 2012 and "create a formidable future threat".

"It was very tough for us to narrow the squad down to the 12 players selected, but we feel they are the best players at this moment to help us achieve success in Frankfurt," Smith said.

"We are looking forward to the European Championships as we believe that with the changes we have made over the last few months we can compete for a major medal although the tricky task of qualifying for the World Championships is never easy."

Jayaratne added: "It was a really tricky selection process and, after a lot of discussion, we are happy that we have selected a team that will not only be competitive, but also has the scope to develop greatly, with the future in mind.

"Our first and main goal at the Europeans has to be to qualify for the World Championships next year and then, hopefully, to try to improve on our positioning relative to previous European campaigns."

The British women were drawn in Group B of the competition in Frankfurt and will face old rivals the Netherlands - winners of the bronze medal at London 2012 - Turkey and Italy – who are welcomed back to the European Championships after missing the competition in 2011.

In Pool A, reigning London 2012 Paralympic Champions Germany take on France, Spain and Israel.
