So Wa Wai 260413April 25 - China's Jin Zheng set a world record in the women's T11 5,000 metres at the China Open Athletics Championships – the second of seven events in the inaugural International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix – in Beijing.

Zheng's record-breaking performance - pending IPC Athletics ratification - saw her clocking a time of 19min 27.90sec on home soil at the event, which also featured strong showings from athletes from Iraq, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong.

In addition to Zheng's feat, China's Yan Chen won both the T11 100m and 200m in times of 13.60sec and 27.62 respectively, while Chinese Taipei London 2012 Paralympian Ya Ting Liu dominated the field events, starring in the F12/13 javelin final with a mark of 910.

On the men's side, highlights included six-time Paralympic champion So Wa Wai (pictured top) of Hong Kong's victory in the T36 100m final in a time of 12.74, while China's Junfeng Shang won the T44 100m in 13.65 and teammate Kai Zong won the T52/54 100m in 15.13.

Chinese Taipei's two-time Paralympic gold medallist Chih Chung Chiang won the F11/12 shot put with a mark of 11.20 and Iraq's Hassain Hameed won the F11 discus final with a distance of 28.32.

In all, eight different nations participated in the China Open Athletics Championships, with China, Iraq and Chinese Taipei having the highest number of representatives.
